Introduction: S. Burley
Introducing a talented rising artist that we believe deserves recognition:
S. Burley. We had the pleasure of speaking with him and getting to know the individual more.
Although he speaks and expresses himself through his music, The Booth Magazine was able to get a down-to-earth side of S. Burley.
Read the exclusive interview below to read on his inspirations, background and what's on the horizon.
What is your name and what city do you rep? S.Burley, I’m originally from Augusta, Ga. but currently residing in the Tampa Bay Area.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them? My latest release, ”Road To Riches” was inspired by my journey in the music business. I’ve been building my brand and label (TBJR ENT.) for about 15 years with a lot of highs and lows. Despite my setbacks I always come back harder on my road to riches. I used my journey to create a motivational anthem for entrepreneurs and creatives like myself to never give up and stay focused with a mantra evoking financial freedom.
What is unique about you and your music? I am unique because I aim to create new sounds and new flows. Being a beat maker, producer and artist helped me train my mind to hear a finished song in my head while I’m creating it. I never want to make a song like anyone else or even sound similar. That’s why all of my music is unique, none of my songs sound alike. What shaped your music? My circumstances shaped my music because I always was driven to rap about my life and experiences. The more I worked on music the more truthful and authentic my music became.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally? When I got signed to an independent record label in Tampa at 15, I knew from then on I’d be making music professionally my whole life.
What type of music do you listen to? It all depends on my mood and vibe. I listen to mostly hip hop; old school and modern. I listen to a range of artists from KRS One to Kendrick Lamar. I also listen to concentration and meditation music when I need to reset and refocus.
What inspires you to write music? Life experiences from myself and others inspire me to write music. I am a huge believer of thoughts creating reality so I make sure to maintain positive and productive messages to the people with my music. I focus my energy on positivity.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about? When I’m not working on music I’m meeting with like minded individuals like my bro Yung Splita, we are working on a podcast that’s coming soon along with film projects and strategizing with my bro Evanson on financial freedom and building our own professional recording studio. Happiness to you is… Happiness to me is my family and friends being healthy with smiles on their faces and creating music being creative.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out? When I first started I wish I was told how scammers were scamming. I have been scammed at least 10 times costing me thousands of dollars and many disappointments on this road to riches. Last time I was scammed was a few months ago by Scott Larock Jr. So artists definitely watch out with who you do business with. I’ve grown through the process, now I’m less focused on being famous and more focused on being successful whether it’s music or another endeavor. Tell us about your upcoming projects… My “High Frequency” album is coming out 1st quarter 2022. It’s about operating at a higher frequency and being connected with the universe. I have a few collaborative projects coming soon with Yung Splita, we are currently in the pre-production stage.
